The department of higher mathematics was founded in 1996.

The head of the Department is Semko Mykola Mykolayovych, Doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, Professor.
In 1978 he graduated from Kyiv O.M. Gorky state pedagogical institute by speciality of "Mathematics".
In 1983 Semko N.N. defended Candidate dissertation "Infinite non-Abelian groups with the set properties of invariant subgroups’ system», and in 2001 – the thesis for the Doctor's degree «Groups with conditions of density of normality and its generalizations for some systems of subgroups".
Professor Semko M.M. is the author of over 170 research and scientific-methodical papers, among which there are 2 monographs on problems of modern algebra.
Semko M.M. is a member of the specialized doctor's academic councils of the Ukrainian Institute of mathematics and of the Kyiv Shevchenko National university. Semko M.M. is awarded with M.V. Ostrogradsky medal for contribution in the development of the Ukrainian mathematical science (2002) and with the order “For labour achievements” of the 4-th degree by the STA of Ukraine.

At the department one doctor and five candidates of physical and mathematical sciences work.

The following d isciplines are taught: “Mathematics for economists” (higher mathematics, theory of probability and mathematical statistics, mathematical programming), "Econometrics", "Economic risk and risk of taxation", "Methods and models of decision-making in taxation", "Models and methods of decision-making in accounting", "Models and methods of decision-making in analysis and auditing", "Methods and models of management of financial risk", "Economic-mathematical models in taxation", "Macroeconomic forecasting", "Higher mathematics for junior specialists", "Mathematics for junior specialists", "Physics".

Teachers of the department carry out research on the state budgetary theme "Economic-mathematical modelling of social and economic processes when changing tax laws in the context of forecasting the state budget of Ukraine". The department, according to the agreement on cooperation with the State tax administration of Kyiv performed the research work "Forecasting of monthly revenues from Kyiv separate districts".

During existence of the department its teachers published about 160 scientific papers on the problems of mathematics, pedagogics, economy and taxation, three monographs and 29 manuals.
