In 1997 on the base faculties of public disciplines two departments were created: economic theories under a manual I.A. Maksimenko and humanitarian disciplines, which the senior lecturer V.D. Tihonenko, the candidate of philosophical sciences has headed.
In 2000 the department of humanitarian disciplines was reorganized as a department of philosophy and sociology led by the doctor of philosophical sciences, professor N.P. Nedyuha.

In 2006 the department was headed by Lubov S. Vorobyova, candidate of phylosophical sciences.

Today 22 teachers work at the department, among them: 2 doctors and 11 candidates of sciences.
The following disciplines are taught at this department: "Philosophy", "Philosophy of law", "Sociology", "History of Ukraine", "Politology", "Logic", "Ethics and aesthetics", "Religion", "Ethics of the civil servant".

In 2003 the teachers of the department began the development of a scientific subject "Problems of humanization of training and education of future taxworkers". In the framework of approbation of this subject in May, 2003 the First Irpin pedagogical readings were organized. In May, 2004 the Second Irpin international pedagogical readings on problems of humanization of training and education of modern student's youth" passed, and in May, 2005 the Third readings "Problems of humanization of training and education in high schools" were held.

At the department problems of creating positive image of STS workers, value orientations of modern student's youth, problems of professional-ethical deformation of STS officers, creativity in decision-making by tax service heads etc. are being developed. The department cooperates with colleagues from Russia and Belarus, G.S. Kostyuk Institute of psychology of the Academy of pedagogical sciences of Ukraine, Institute of higher education of the same as well as with the faculties of T.G. Shevchenko Kyiv National University, National academy of internal affairs of Ukraine, Solomon university, and National university of physical training and sports of Ukraine.

The department of philosophy and sociology appears to be in expediency of creation of the social service, which could be involved in operating with the taxpayers. The social service should include representatives of different fields of knowledge: the sociologists, psychologists, lawyers, conflictologists, economists, experts in the taxation and other. In the perspective is raising of the question about creation of appropriate faculty, and also possible of the faculty of social operation on preparation of the social workers STS of Ukraine.

The student's scientific company operates at the faculty which works in four directions: philosophical company "Svitoglyad", historical club "Spadshchyna", sociological laboratory and the club of political imagemaking.

The work of teaching staff is directed on creation of a harmonic-developed personality, preparation of the experts with modern level of knowledge and wide outlook, developed intelligence, high level of common and law culture. Problems of creation of positive image of the workers of STS are developed at the department, valuable orientations of modern student's youth, the problem of professional-ethical deformation of the STS employees, creativity in decision making of the chiefs of the STS service and so on are developed.
