The Department of Criminal law, Criminal Process and Criminalistics was founded on September 1, 1998 as a part of the Financial-Economics Institute.
The head of the department is Petro V. Tsimbal, a candidate of law sciences, associate professor.
In 1977 Tsimbal Peter Vasilyovych graduated from historical department of Kiev State Pedagogical Institute, in 1980 he graduated from law department of Kiev State University named after T.G. Shevchenko.
In 1992 he defended his candidate thesis on the subject” Improvement of the usage of scientific and technical facilities in crime investigation”. Tsimbal P.V. is the author and coauthor of over 100 scientific publications and he has been writing the doctor’s thesis.

There are 22 lecturers and instructors at the department, among them 3 doctors of law sciences, professors and 5 candidates of law sciences.

The department provides teaching of the following, disciplines”Criminal Process”, “Criminology”,” The Criminal Executive Law”, “Theoretical Bases of Crimes Qualification”, “The Judicial and Law-Enforcement Bodies of Ukraine”, “Criminalistics”, “The Theory of Judicial Evidences”, “Implementation of Court Decisions ”, “Prosecutor’s Supervision”, “The Judicial System in Ukraine”, “The Problems of Pre-Trial Investigation”, “The Protection of Person’s Rights During Administration of Justice ”, “The organization of Labour in the Bodies of the Persecutor’s office and the Court”, “The Judicial Expert Examination” , “Judicial Documenting”, “The Legal Adjustment of the activity of State Tax Administration of Ukraine”, “The Advocacy of Ukraine ”, “The theory of Crimes qualification”
At the department there is a postgraduate study in specialty ”The Criminal process and criminalistics; the judicial examination” where 14 persons study.
The research work on the theme “The judicial aspects of investigation, qualification and prevention of crimes in the field of taxation” has been correid aout since December 3, 2003”
There is the students’ scientific society and the legal club “Themis” at the department. The quizzes competitions and business games are conducted within the framework of the club.
