The department of operative-search activity and investigation was created in 1997 in structure of the Ukrainian financial and economic institute as the main and profiling chair.
On September, 1, 2000 the department was reorganized in the department of the organization of operative-search activity.
The chief of the department is Georgiy M. Birukov, candidate of jurisprudence, docent, colonel.

The department structure includes one doctor of sciences, professor and four candidates of sciences, docents.
At the department the following disciplines are taught: "Operative-search activity", "Special techniques", "Mode of secrecy", "Special tactics of tax militia divisions", "Organization and modern problems of struggle against corruption and the organized crime", other special courses.
The important component of educational process is research and development work of the staff department. The department teachers together with cadets of the scientific society started researching a new theme "Prevention and disclosing of crimes in the taxation sphere".

Nineteen members of the department scientific society prepared reports for section "Operative activity, interaction with other law enforcement bodies, counteraction of criminality in economic and tax sphere" within the framework of the annual scientific-practical conference of cadets and students "Tax and other law enforcement bodies in the XXI-st century: management, activity, interaction".
A field of activity of the department graduates includes revealing, disclosing and prevention of crimes in the taxation sphere.
