In 1996 in the structure of the Ukrainian financial and economic institute the department of physical training and sport was created, which was headed by Valery I. Tereshchenko, candidate of pedagogical sciences, professor, master of sports on the track and field athletics, the deserved trainer of Ukraine, national category judge, honored worker of national education of Ukraine, the fivefold champion of Ukraine on decathlon.
V.I. Tereshchenko is the author of 5 manuals; he has 15 copyright certificates on inventions.

Disciplines such as: "Physical training" and "Special physical training" are taught at law, financial, accounting and taxation faculties as well as in the Kyiv financial and economic college.
At the University good conditions for going in for sports are created. On the base of the sport center a stadium, a manege, game and sports halls are functioning. There are 14 sports sections in which 800 students are engaged. The games among students and the staff on 10 kinds of sports in which about 5000 students and teachers take part are held annually.

3 deserved masters of sports of Ukraine, 19 masters of sports of the international class, 23 master of sports, 47 candidates to the masters of sports, 87 first-rank sportsmen study at the University.

Among students of the University there is a participant of the summer Olympic games in Sydney – the bronze prize-winner on broad jumps Shchurenko Roman; 8 students of the University were participants of the Olympic games in Athens, and Vladislav Tretjak became the bronze prize-winner of the Olympiad on fencing on sabers. Valentine Shevchenko won the crystal globe during the world cup on ski races. Four students of the University participated in the XXII World winter university game on biathlon. Khvostenko Oxana, Bilanenko Alexander, Prima Roman, Korobejnikov Alexey won 3 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze medals, and during the championship of Europe on biathlon our four students won 1 gold and 3 silver medals. Students of the University Chumak Dmitry, Osharov Vitaly, Tretjak Vladislav, Blonskaja Lyudmila, Chubar Artem won 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals on the World summer university game in Izmir.2 candidates of pedagogical sciences work at the department.

Since 1997 the combined team of the University on football is the constant participant of the championship of the Kyiv region. It became the champion, twice silver and once the bronze prize-winner of the championship of the region, and in 2001 – silver prize-winner of the V Summer University game.

The female team on handball plays in the major league of the championship of Ukraine. At the VI-th Summer University games of Ukraine it won the second place.
At the department of physical training 15 teachers work, among them there is a master of sports of the international class, 2 masters of sports, 6 candidates to the masters of sports.
