The head of the department is Kostina Nina Ivanivna, Doctor of Economy, Professor.
In 1962 she graduated from the Moscow Institute of transport engineers by speciality "Economy and organisation of the railway transport".
In 1967 she defended Candidate's dissertation "Problems of economic systems modelling" on speciality "Economic and mathematical modelling".
In 1986 she defended Doctor's dissertation "Multi-purpose imitating systems of automatic modelling in forecasting and planning of the regional development".
N. Kostina is a specialist of the world level. She is the author of over 350 transactions, in particular 7 monographs (one of them was published in Germany), 7 textbooks and manuals.
She prepared 1 Doctor and 21 Candidates of sciences.
For the series of papers on the actual problems of formation and introduction of multi-purpose imitating systems N. Kostina obtained the NAS O.G. Shlikhter Prize in Economy in 1988.

Specialists on the "Finance" speciality of "Financial monitoring" and "Banking" specialisation are trained at the department.
Training is carried out according to the two step education (bachelor – 4 years, master, specialist – 1 year).
1 Doctor of Economy, 6 Candidates of Economy, 9 senior instructors, 2 assistants take part in training of students.

– "International accounts and currency control".

The main direction of the research activity of the department is investigation of the theme "Banks' activity in the context of the tax policy of the state".
During the work the taxation system influence on developing subjects of economic activities in Ukraine, in particular bank establishments was investigated; the technique of defining financial stability of banks and tax system influence on formation and development of the financial market was analyzed. The research results are constantly being introduced into educational process. Along with the Department of currency exchange regulation on taxation and revealing tax evasion in a banking system and finance and credit institutions of STA the faculty carried out the research and on its basis the manual "Taxation of financial institutions" was published.
The faculty takes an active part in the international and All-Ukrainian scientific and practical conferences, seminars, round tables on actual problems of banking activity.
Teachers of the department made 19 proposals on legislative activity.
Results of the researches carried out by the department are being constantly introduced into educational process of the University.
Teachers of the department carried out joint scientific work with the department of currency control on taxation and revealing of taxation evasion in bank system and STA financial-credit establishments. The result of this cooperation was creation of manuals: "International payments and currency control"; "Taxation of financial establishments".
Teachers and post-graduate students of the department are constantly taking part in international and all-Ukrainian scientific-practical conferences.

The department supports close connections with the leading high schools of Ukraine: Kyiv National Economic University, Kyiv Trade and Economic University, the Ukrainian Banking Academy (Sumy) and others.
The faculty cooperates with the State committee of financial monitoring, National bank of Ukraine, the State commission on securities and the stock market of Ukraine, other banking financial establishments and leading high schools of Ukraine: Kyiv national economic university, Kyiv trade and economic university, the Ukrainian banking academy (Sumy) and others.

At the department the Student's scientific society consisting of 35 students is created. Within the framework of the faculty Decade the students' scientific conferences, Olympiads on professional disciplines, meetings of students with science officers and leading experts on questions concerning the role of banking system in sphere of prevention and counteraction to legalization (laundering) of illegal incomes are traditionally carried out.
With the purpose of qualitative preparation of students at the Department the computer class is created, its equipment and organizational structure meet the standards of a real bank. In the class the operating software PROFIX is established. In educational process interactive forms and methods - situational tasks, business games, cases are actively used.
