The department of psychology and pedagogics was created on September, 2 2002.

The head of the department is Sergiy D. Maksymenko, doctor of psychological sciences, academician.
S.D. Maksymenko is a well-known scientist in the field of age and pedagogical psychology. The central direction of his scientific activity is development of the idea of mentality genetic studying.
S.D. Maksymenko is an author of more than 300 scientific works, among which there are four manuals on general and pedagogical psychology for students of higher educational institutions and nine monographs, devoted to methodological problems of developing training, psychology of a person, genetic psychology.
He prepared 107 candidates and 12 doctors of sciences.

The following disciplines are taught at the department of psychology and pedagogics: "Psychology and pedagogics", "Psychology of mutual relations with tax bearers", "Conflictology", "Pedagogics of the higher school", "Legal psychology", "Operative psychological training".
The main task of the department is introduction of ideas of humanization and humanitarization of the teaching and educational process. Under the initiative of the department new subjects were included into the curriculum of the academy: "Conflictology", "Operative psychological training", "Psychology of mutual relations with tax bearers". The department works on the development of a new special course "Imageology of a tax collector". The basic purpose of these disciplines is contained in their professional and practical direction.

In April, 2003 for the first time at the academy the department decade was held within the framework of which a round table session "Psychological bases of humanization of educational establishments' management" with participation of the doctor of psychological sciences L.M. Karamushka took place.

Under the department initiative the first scientific-practical students' conference "Psychology in my future profession" was organized.
The best experts on psychological science took part in the Olympiad on psychology, and its winners received the invitation to take part in all-Ukrainian Olympiad which is annually carried out in the inter-regional academy of the personnel management. In 2002 the cadet of the academy Bondarenko Olexiy became its winner, he was awarded with the special letter of the Minister of Education.

Cognitive-entertaining psychological tournament "Who will win?" (student/teacher: interaction or opposition) convincingly proved, that partner, humane, psychologically comfortable mutual relations should be put in a basis of interaction of a student with a teacher. They assist creativity and self-realization of each person.

On May, 22–23 at the academy the First Irpin scientific and pedagogical readings on problems of training and education humanization in a higher educational institution were held. The department of psychology and pedagogics is united together with other humanitarian faculties of the academy in the Center of the humanitarian education.
